about

“The Start of Something” was a song written in around 2008 or so and slowly developed as the lineup of the band changed, new sections were added, and a new intro. In typical Flying Batteries fashion, a new outro for the song ended up taking on a life of its own before being shifted in to the start of the song, where we cut the intro from the main song on the tracklisting in order to not deter repeated listens. Recording for the song was surprisingly straight forward, and came in towards the end of the session, with Craig recording the keyboards in a day before going for a jaunt around Europe, guitars being recorded in less than an hour due to efficiency and a new found experience from the first batch of recordings, and drums being sorted out in a handful of takes and a single overdub. Mixing was a huge issue, though. Joe helped us tame the drums, but it took a lot of headaches to get the song to sound right, especially with the keyboards and distorted guitars all over the place. It was a song about 5 years or so development under its belt, so we had a lot of experience in getting it to sound how we wanted it.

lyrics

So what?
You've seen the things I want you to
I say they're false you make it true
Losing our communication
Static withdrawal
Jealousy will be our downfall
I just can't read you
Still I wanted you to know
That I could never give up control

You've got something in your eye
It's the start of something wonderful
You've got nothing left to say
You've got nothing left to fear

Give me one good reason to stop
This will end in a mother's tears
You will always be the last thought
You will always be the why not

You've got something in your eye
It's the start of something wonderful
You've got nothing left to say
You've got nothing left to fear
