“Another Place to Hide” (demo title APTH2) is one of our oldest songs, probably one of the first, where it was part 2 of a 3 part song that was originally a 12 minute long example of everything Flying Batteries was goiong to be about. Part 1 was the slow burning piano ballad (which appears on the “Voiceless” EP), which then transitions to part 2 which was the uptempo louder song you hear here, which then gave way to the more ambient and quieter part 3 (which appears on the “Marionette” EP). The transitions between the songs eventually started to sound like songs in their own right, so the decision was made to split the 12 minute song in to 3 separate songs. When you put them together, there's still a bit of a narrative, but not as tight as it was originally going to be. “Another Place to Hide” is a song we've been playing live since the very early days, although a lot of the vocals and melodies have been changed drastically, specifically the pre-chorus, chorus and lead guitars, provided by Dan on a telecaster here. The telecaster sound in general has been a bit of a running joke in Flying Batteries, since Dan joined, where Dan maintains that it's quite simply best guitar and Rikki hates it with a vengence. It fits in to the song pretty well here, giving a striking and flowing tone during the verses and outro, so I can't really complain. The drums have had a bit of a serious work done to them, which changed the way the song turned out drastically. If I were to put up an earlier demo, you'd be surprised it was the same song. I think the song was one of the first we started to mix, and we put up a video showcasing where we were a day in to the mixing process.
lyrics
Start a blaze and burn a fire
Lost in a daze of a strangers desire
It's not about the lies you conceal
It's about the right you have to be yourself
Don't pretend to be something you're not
Give it time and give it thought
This is no longer fine
When you are distant all the time
I'll follow you
Wherever you will go
Wherever you will go
I don't want know who you were before
A place to hide is worth fighting for
Forget the past and then we can change
Start a future entwined inside this cage
It's not about the lies you conceal
It's about the right you have to be yourself
Don't pretend to be something you're not
Give it time and give it thought
This is no longer fine
When you are distant all the time
I'll follow you
Wherever you will go
Wherever you will go
I don't want know who you were before
A place to hide is worth fighting for
Seven days and I'm at the edge
A hundred miles and I'm losing my head
This is no longer fine
When you are distant all the time
I'll follow you
Wherever you will go
Wherever you will go
I don't want know who you were before
A place to hide is worth fighting for
Seven days and I'm at the edge
A hundred miles and I'm losing my head
