about

“Take” was always a strange song. It was demoed in late 2012 for our first album, but never quite felt right. In fact, it was so close to being finished that our friend Parker (Rekapper) actually did a strange remix for it on the Marionette EP, called “Taking (Rekappers Greedy Mix)”, appearing as a hidden track between “Summertime” and “Marionette”. The song went through a lot of rewriting and progression changes from then until now, entirely removing a lot of synthesiser and guitar parts, and focusing on more of a rhythm based structure, as well as one of the first recorded instances of our first drummer – Derek the Drum Machine, aka, Derek Ruitheam. The bass synthesiser had to be recreated hastily the day before recording when it was found that the original patch decided to delete itself, leading to a lot of disparity and headaches between how we mixed the second demo for the album and how synthesiser turned out on the album, also the chorus was completely changed during the recording of the song, as we had originally planned a boy/girl chorus but ended up going with a vocoder when that idea wasn't gelling with the rest of the track. The lyrics deal with a meeting I attended with a family member about vanity surgery in 2011 and one of the lines the doctor came out with was, if I'm remembering correctly, was something like “Sure, every surgery regardless of how minor carries a risk of casualty, but in the end you'll feel great!” which on one hand was hilarious and on the other a bit terrifying how casual he was about it. The song deals with how when you replace or change things about yourself in order to make other people happy, are you still the same person?

lyrics

Just a glimpse of what you wanted to be
With no effort required
Run the risk of casualty
Pull the skin
Set the bones
Check the mirror
You're good to go
Stripped of your parts, yeah

(Take my heart and take my soul)
Is patience what you're looking for?
(Take my skin and take my bones)
Holding back when you wanted more
(Take my heart and take my soul)
Is patience what you're looking for?

All I want is you

(Take my heart and take my soul)
Is patience what you're looking for?
(Take my skin and take my bones)
Holding back when you want it more
(Take my heart and take my soul)
Is patience what you're looking for

All I want is you

Nothing more
Nothing left
Nothing here to cling on to
